CC Media Collector is a Firefox extension which can help collecting medias cross the web. It keeps the CC-related metadata of media files, so you can easily remix things in your collection with proper attribution and license.

Status

A proof-of-concept alpha release, version 0.1, is out with a very basic collection database and Flickr sniffer. Nothing in this release is final; there will have a lot of improvements to come in the near future.

An icon will be displayed if you access CC-licensed Flickr photo, and there will be a panel if you clicked the icon:

Click "Collect" on it to add the photo to the collection.

You can access the media collection library in Tools -> Media Collection:

In the future, the collection UI will be revised to match the mockup, and every item on the collection will be locally stored.

Install

Issues in the recent release

• Media collector's panel for sniffer-supported pages will be malfunction if you drag and drop the tab into a new window. (Issue 1)

• Content Sniffer:
  • prototype for Flickr
• Capture single page, save some information in ccREL.
• Media Library:
  • Basic interface for list & delete captured resources.
  • Prototype of detail information page, with ability to edit some (or, 1) metadata of the selected resource.
• First blog post about the project on CC TW Site / CC Tech blog.

11/30 Alpha 2

• Full ccREL metadata support
• Media Library:
  • Open the system default editor
  • Searching, filtering captured resources.

  • Readability script integration, capture the processed content.
